Hunza: The flood situation has worsened due to the melting of glaciers near Hunza, there are scenes of destruction everywhere. The only drinking water channel used for half the population of Hunza was also destroyed and all communication systems including the internet were disrupted.

Water discharge from the Sheshapar Glacier has decreased, but the flood situation is causing havoc everywhere. Drinking pipes, including bridges, houses, land, and two powerhouses on the main highway have also been affected.

Adviser on Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs Qamar Zaman Kaira has directed the Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan to take steps to provide immediate relief to the victims. NDMA sources said that all communication systems including water channels and internet systems were disrupted.

The Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan, while visiting the area, assured the construction of an emergency bridge at KKH on an emergency basis and full assistance to the victims. He said that alternative routes for small vehicles have been diverted while alternative emergency bridges for heavy traffic would be installed within a week. A delegation from Hassanabad called on Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan and apprised him of the damage and problems in the area. The Chief Secretary said that at present the situation is under the control of the administration and the affected families have been shifted to safer places.
